DRINKING ALCOHOL - GOLDEN RULE No. 3 - ENJOY YOUR DRINK BUT DON’T BECOME AN ALCOHOLIC - TAKE MORE OUT OF ALCOHOL THAN ALCOHOL TAKES OUT OF YOU

DRINKING ALCOHOL - GOLDEN RULE No. 3
ENJOY YOUR DRINK BUT DON’T BECOME AN ALCOHOLIC
TAKE MORE OUT OF ALCOHOL THAN ALCOHOL TAKES OUT OF YOU

Continued from:

I once read a saying:

If drinking is interfering with your work, you're probably a heavy drinker
If work is interfering with your drinking, you're probably an alcoholic

It is not easy to become an alcoholic. In fact it takes such a long time of sustained drinking to become an alcoholic that alcoholism can be easily prevented.

Someone once told me that it takes 10 years of heavy drinking to develop alcohol dependence and after that it takes another 10 years to become an alcoholic. That means it takes 20 years of heavy drinking for a person to become an alcoholic. So you have got plenty of time to quit drinking in case you realize that you are getting addicted to alcohol and feel that you are on the road to alcoholism.

Remember, the very reason you drink is to lift your spirits and feel good, so you must make sure that you enjoy your drink but the drink does not “enjoy” you.

I think it was Winston Churchill who said:

I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me

When I hark back to my glorious drinking days, I think that I too can say the same.

Well, how do you do that – ensure that you take more out of alcohol than alcohol takes out of you?

All that I will tell you in my next article in this series – DRINKING ALCOHOL - GOLDEN RULE No. 4.

Till then, CHEERS (but no “bottoms up”)
