MALVALOCA - RAINY EVENING SENSUOUS WOMAN ENTICING FRAGRANCE MYSTERIOUS ROMANCE

MALVALOCA
RAINY EVENING SENSUOUS WOMAN ENTICING FRAGRANCE MYSTERIOUS ROMANCE
Fiction Short Story - A Monsoon Romance
By
VIKRAM KARVE

From my Creative Writing Archives:

Windy monsoon rains, a mysterious woman, an intriguing fragrance, a romantic interlude

I recognized her at once.

She stood at the bus-stop near Worli, dishevelled in the windy rain, struggling with her umbrella, trying not to get wet.

I stopped the car, opened the door and waved to her.

She smiled, shut her folding umbrella, ran towards the car, got in and closed the door.

The moment she entered the car and sat down beside me, I sensed the distinctive aroma of her signature perfume – soft, relaxing aroma of scented geraniums, a delightful leafy rose fragrance, not too heady, a hint of spice, subtle yet alluring – a clean, exhilarating and utterly unique fragrance, an everlasting fragrance etched deep within me forever.

She kept the wet umbrella near her feet, smoothed her hair with her hands, turned towards me and said, “Thanks.”

I changed gears, set the car into motion, and asked her, “Where shall I drop you...?”

“Where are you going...?” she countered.

“Churchgate,” I said.

“Great. You can drop me on the way,” she said, “I live on Marine Drive.”

“You live in Mumbai...? You've come back...?”

“Yes.”

“Oh...that's great... A flat on Marine Drive... Successful NRI returning to one’s roots, is it... He must be a successful head honcho in some MNC…”

“I have come back alone...!”

“Alone...?”

“Yes. We broke up. My marriage didn’t work out.”

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay,” she paused for a moment and then she asked me, “You're married...?”

“No,” I answered.

“Because of me...?”

“I don’t know...”

“They told me you were very upset.”

“They...?”

“My parents.”

“Oh...so your parents told you...?”

“Tell me, what could I do...? I couldn’t marry both of you, could I...? I had to make a choice.”

“And you made your choice – you chose him...!”

“Yes.”

“The wrong choice...?”

“Maybe…”

For a little while we drove in silence, and then suddenly out of the blue she said, “I wish I had married you…maybe things would have worked out much better.”

“Maybe,” I said.

“Yes, maybe I really made the wrong choice,” she said wistfully.

I didn’t say anything, just remained silent.

“How about you...?” she asked, “Any plans to get married...?”

“I don’t know,” I said.

We drove in silence.

“Hey, I’ll get off here,” she suddenly said.

“Here...?” I said slowing down the car and steering left towards the footpath.

“That’s where I stay,” she said pointing to a building, “Working Women's Hostel.”

“Working Women’s Hostel...?”

“Yes. Room number seven. Easy to remember – lucky seven,” she said, opening the door of the car, “Why don’t you come in for a cup of coffee...?”

“Thanks. Not now. I have an appointment.”

“Okay. Maybe sometime later...?”

“Maybe.”

“Bye. And thanks for the ride.”

“You’re most welcome.”

She got out of the car, closed the door, gave me a smile and wave of thanks, turned around and walked away from my life once more.

But the lingering fragrance of her enchanting perfume remained with me as I drove on to my rendezvous.

My fiancée was waiting for me at Churchgate.

“Hey,” my fiancée said, sniffing the air in the car, “What a lovely fragrance. A feminine perfume...?”

“Malvaloca,” I said.

“Malvaloca...?”

“It’s a perfume made from scented geraniums.”

“Wow...! What an enticing fragrance...! So you’re two timing me, is it...? Giving rides to ravishing beauties wearing mysterious perfumes...?”

“Maybe,” I laughed.

I stopped the car by the seaside, opened the windows to let in the fresh sea breeze, and let it blow away all traces of the perfumed fragrance.

Then, I took my fiancée’s soft hands in mine, looked into her eyes and told her everything....yes, I told her everything...absolutely everything!

LOVE DREAM

LOVE DREAM
It Happened One Night
Short Fiction - A Passionate Love Story
By

VIKRAM KARVE

From my Creative Writing Archives:

One of my earliest pieces of short fiction.

A very short adult love story I wrote 20 years ago, in the 1990s.

This story is for adults only.

The terrifying nightmare grew.

It was just one revolving pattern of flames with inhuman sounds screaming at him from all sides.

When he tried to use his limbs, nothing happened.

He looked down at his legs and saw that the left one was hanging like a piece of bloody sack.

He felt the searing crash of metal into his body.

And then he heard himself screaming in frenzy as the blaze engulfed him and pulverized his entire body.

There was another voice now – a different voice.

He sat up violently in the pitch darkness, fighting the blanket.

As he recovered his wits, he realized that the door was partly open and he could see a pale figure in the light from the corridor.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

He did not say anything.

She entered the room, walked towards him and said, “I’m sorry, but you were screaming.”

Trying to steady his breathing, he said to her, “Bit of a bad dream, that’s all.”

She sat down on the bed and said, “I was shaken scared by your terrifying scream. It must have been a terrible dream.”

“Yes,” he said, and he ran his hand over his wet face.

She reached out and touched his shoulder. “Lie back now. Try to relax. I’ll go and let you sleep.”

He looked up at her and pleaded, “Don’t go. Please don’t go…”

He took her hand and pressed gently.

At first there was no answering pressure.

Then she pressed back.

She touched his hair with her other hand.

He could feel the want churning inside him like fire.

He moved his hand and touched her skin.

“No,” she said quietly. “We’d better stop now.”

He pulled her gently beside him, feeling the yearning like a physical pain.

She did not resist.

Then all at once she was helping him.

They made love.

They made love, first with tenderness, then gradually building up into a passionate frenzy as they both become rough and hard, demanding more of each other, till they lay exhausted, their limbs still entangled.

He lay in bed in self-commiseration, wondering why it had happened.

His train of thoughts spiralled into an abyss as he thought about his agonizing loneliness, his frightening, corrosive, desolate life, the terrifying nightmare, the frenzied act.

Was it an impulsive reckless act of love?

Or was it wild rage?

Or was it a desperate act of expiration?

Or was it a wet dream?

The whole thing suddenly seemed sordid.

He turned towards her and started to say, “I am sorry...”

She instantly put her hand on his mouth and said, “Please don’t say it. What happened, just happened.”

He closed his eyes and lay still.

When he opened his eyes, he saw her standing near the door.

“It was good of you to come,” he said.

“Yes,” she said.

She quietly stepped out of the room, closed the door, and walked out of his life forever.

APPETIZING KISS SEXY DISH

APPETIZING KISS and SEXY DISH
A Story and A Recipe
By
VIKRAM KARVE

There is a thing called PERCEPTION

Do you know what the word "perception" means?

It is all in the mind.

First I will tell you a story.

And then I will feed you a delicious snack.

First, Food for the Mind, and then, Food for the Body

So, Dear Reader, read on - the story and the recipe.

THE STORY : APPETIZING KISS

Eggs, Vodka and a Kiss

I have heard this interesting story, surely apocryphal, about eggs, vodka and a kiss.

Taimurlane's wife started to build a magnificent palace for him as a surprise, while he was away at the wars, but when she got word of his imminent return, one arch, the victory arch, the Arc de Triomphestill remained unfinished.

She went directly to the architect and begged him to hurry but the architect told her he would complete the work in time only if she gave him a kiss.

“One kiss, one single kiss, just one kiss, that’s all, and I will build the most magnificent triumphal arch in the world,” the architect said to her.

Taimurlane's wife was not only very beautiful and very virtuous, but also very clever.

She went to the market, bought a basket of eggs, boiled them hard, and stained them a dozen different colours.

She called the architect to the palace, showed him the basket and told him to choose any egg he liked and eat it.

He took a red egg and ate it.

“What does it taste like?” she asked.

“Like an egg. It tastes like an egg,” he said.

“Eat another,” she said.

He took a green egg.

“What does that taste like?” she asked.

“It tastes like an egg, just like the red egg,” he answered.

“Try another,” she said.

He ate a purple egg.

“How does it taste?” she asked.

“Like an egg. One egg tastes just the same as any other egg,” he said intrigued by all this.

“There you are!” she said, “Each of these eggs looks different but they all taste the same. It's the same with a kiss. So you may kiss any one of my serving women that you like but you must leave me alone.”

“Very well,” said the architect. But soon he came back to her and this time he was carrying a tray with two bowls on it, and you would have thought the bowls were all full of water.

“Drink from each of these bowls,” he said.

She took a drink from the first bowl, then from the second; but how she coughed and spluttered when she took a mouthful from the third bowl, because it contained, not water, but vodka.

“See,” he said, “This vodka and that water both look alike but each tastes quite different, isn’t it? It’s the same with love!”

Primed by the Vodka in her veins, Taimurlane's wife kissed the architect on the mouth.
The moment the kiss was over, the architect rushed back to the palace and finished the triumphal arch the same day that victorious Taimurlane rode back with his army and banners and his cages full of captive kings.
Taimurlane was impressed with the magnificent palace and the grand victory arch and rewarded the architect.
But when Taimurlane went to congratulate his wife, she turned away from him because no woman returns to the harem after she has tasted vodka.
And what happened to her and the architect – well that’s another story...!

THE RECIPE : SEXY DISH

Now, Dear Reader, here is the scrumptious mouth-watering Recipe which embodies the essence of the story:

The recipe for SEXY EGGS

Now let’s talk of eggs.

In the story we had boiled eggs which looked different but tasted the same.

Now I am going to tell you how to make boiled eggs that look the same but taste different (just like the water and the vodka in the story).

And talking of vodka and eggs, apart from vodka, this snack goes very well with rum-pani, whiskey-soda, chilled beer.

You can take my word for it for in the good old days when I did have a drink once in a while, [I’m a teetotaller now], this was my favourite cocktail snack which I prepared when I called people over and was appreciated.

Hard-boil as many eggs as you want [at least two per person], plunge into cold running water to cool rapidly, and shell smoothly.

Carefully and very delicately cut each egg lengthwise into two halves.

Remove the yolks carefully.

Mash the yolks into a paste.

Season with a pinch of salt, pepper and red chilly powder, and keep aside.

Now, comes the interesting part.

Take some kheema [mince meat] and boil it in water along with finely chopped onions, a piece of dalchini [cinnamon], tejpatta [Bay Leaves], a few lavangs [cloves] and peppercorns [kali mirch dana], badi and choti Elaichi [cardamom], a few cloves of garlic, strips of ginger, one or two fresh green chillies and a bit of salt.

Cook on slow fire [to facilitate absorbing of the flavour and aroma of the spices] till the meat is well-cooked, tender and dry.

Now, divide the cooked mixture into two.

In half the kheema, blend in a bit of mashed yolk paste and as per your taste add salt, garam masala, coriander powder, cumin powder, tandoori masala, red chilly powder [depending on how spicy you like it] and grind in a mixer into a smooth paste.

In a flat bottom pan, heat oil, fry fine onion strips till transluscent, add finely chopped tomato, then the spicy kheema paste and deep fry till it turns nice and brown and the oil begins to separate.

Take the other half of the kheema and fry it the same way with everything else,
but without adding the mashed egg yolks. Put in all the ingredients mentioned above except the mashed egg yolks.

You now have two non-vegetarian fillings ready.

Now use your imagination and prepare a few more non-vegetarian and vegetarian fillings both with and without the mashed egg yolk paste.

Here are some ideas:

Mayonnaise, cooked chopped fish, salt and pepper.

Mayonnaise, chopped peanuts, salt, chilly powder or mustard paste.

Soft Butter, Cheese, Chilly, Pepper and Salt or so many combinations of spiced up cheese with finely chopped green chillies and tomatoes, mustard paste, and all the sauces you want to blend in.

Let your culinary imagination run wild.

Now carefully stuff in these delicious fillings into the cavities of the eggs in place of the removed yolks and delicately rejoin and press together the two halves so that it looks like a boiled egg.

Now you can either:

(a) dip these eggs in seasoned besan paste and deep fry into crisp pakoras and enjoy the appetizing snack nice and hot along with your drink

or

(b) just chill the stuffed eggs in your fridge and relish them with tomato sauce or green chutney or maybe with a yummy lip smacking dip like a tomato dip or a cheese chilly dip or a green dip which I will tell you about later.

Now pull out your Rum Paani, Whisky Soda, Chilled Beer, or just some good old Neat Vodka on the Rocks.

Say cheers, and bash on regardless...!

All the eggs look the same but taste different, don’t they...?

Well, Dear Reader, that, in a nutshell, is PERCEPTION :

Some things look the same but taste different
and
Some things look different but taste the same

Perception, like Sex, is all in the mind, isnt it?

Cheers. I hope you enjoyed the Appetizing Kiss and the Sexy Dish.
