THE VALUE OF EDUCATION

THE VALUE OF EDUCATION
A Mulla Nasrudin Story
By
VIKRAM KARVE

A highly educated “Techie” was shocked to find that his rustic neighbour Mulla Nasrudin was computer illiterate. He also noticed that Nasrudin did not know how to use a mobile phone and that he was generally quite clueless as far as the latest high-tech gadgets were concerned.

The Technology Savvy Techie kept needling Nasrudin : “In today’s world you have to be technology-savvy to survive. If you don’t know how to use technology your life is half-wasted.”

The man kept on making fun of the hapless technology-ignorant Nasrudin who maintained a stoic silence.

One day they went boating in the lake. The Techie sat at the head of the boat enjoying the cool breeze and breathtaking view while Nasrudin rowed the boat. After some time they were in the centre of the huge lake. Suddenly Nasrudin stopped rowing and was seen examining the hull anxiously.

“Do you know how to swim ?” Nasrudin asked the Techie.

“No,” the Techie answered, “I don’t know how to swim.”

“Then your life is fully-wasted. There is big hole in the bottom of the boat and we are sinking,” Nasrudin said, and then he jumped into the water and swam towards the shore to safety.

Dear Reader, what is the moral of this story?
