HOW ROTE LEARNING KILLS CREATIVE THINKING
A lifetime of having to curb the expression of original thought culminates so often in there being nothing left to express
Liddel Hart quoted by Norman Dixon on page 162 of his book On The Psychology of Military Incompetence
Think about it.
Isn’t the present day rote learning type education system doing exactly this?
And so is the “do as you are told” management philosophy prevalent in most organisations.

I completely agree with you -- the 'do as you are told philosophy is not just prevalent in many organisations but also in many or most homes. Rote learning is no learning at all. we need to let our children think and express and not judge them on what and how they think but discuss the advantages and disadvantages of thought.
for the above to happen we need to upgrade our teacher education and teacher educators to ask open ended questions and to 'invite children to the possibilities of investigation.
Rote learning can help us memorize knowledge to some extent, but it's harm to us at the end.

@ Purnima @ Siar - Thank you for your views. This "do as you are told" philosophy is really killing the creativity of our children
