WILL BLOGGING CHANGE THE FUTURE OF CREATIVE WRITING?
Musings of a Blogger

BLOGGING
When you blog you can write whatever you want to say. You blog when you want to say something.
In blogging you can write whatever you want.
There is no one who sits in judgement and decides what you can “publish” and what you cannot. You can post on your blog whatever you want to say.
“CREATIVE” WRITING
When you “write” you have to try to write what others want to read.
If you want to publish your writing you are at the mercy of editors who sit in judgement on your writing and decide whether what you have written is “fit” to be published or not.
When you write to publish with an eye on “success” (making money) the process of writing is more commercial than creative.
Yes, in the publishing world, commercial considerations prevail over creativity. Your writing must sell and make a profit for all concerned, especially the publisher. For most, writing is pure business with the aim of making maximum profit. Also, in today's world, everyone wants instant success. Like those forgettable yet successful “multiplex movies”, your book too must be an “instant bestseller” and rake in the moolah quickly rather than have an enduring quality.
Unless you are a celebrity, getting your writing published (and marketing the book) is more difficult and frustrating than the actual writing process, which is quite enjoyable. That is why, sometimes, “creative” writing tends to “commercial” writing.
When you blog your creative expression takes the upper hand since there are no commercial considerations involved. Blogging is not a “business ” activity.
BLOGGING MAY CHANGE THE FUTURE OF CREATIVE WRITING
Internet has truly provided a great opportunity for creative writers with so many blogging platforms and websites to showcase their talent and as an outlet for their creative expression. Unless making money is the primary consideration, creative writers can now directly and instantly make accessible their writing to readers all over the world, and also interact and communicate with their readers. No longer do writers have to depend on the mercy of editors and publishers.
The advent of internet has broken the barrier between the writer and the reader. It looks like more and more creative writers will prefer to blog rather than try to publish books. This will also mean that creative writing will be easily accessible and available free to the readers.
And when something is available free of cost, why should someone pay for it? The inference seems quite clear – the end of creative writing as a full-time profession where you can earn your living and, maybe, the slow decline of the printed book as the primary means to documenting literature, and hopefully, a metamorphosis in the attitude of publishers who may become more writer-friendly.
Dear Fellow Bloggers and Creative Writers - I look forward to your comments and views.

and I feel that every time I visit YOURS!
In my opinion, since while blogging you are not at the mercy of the publisher (like you put it), you probably are able to express yourself fearlessly and push your creativity the way you want it.
@ Demure_me - thanks for your nice words, but remember, soon I may be paying you the same compliment. Keep Blogging.
@ A Day in the life of a MOM - you have a lovely blog and write very well. Keep Blogging and let your creativity flourish. All the Best. Vikram
True, you can publish whatever you write and connect with your readers. Blogging is better than those commercial projects, where creativity takes a back seat...
