When I was in the Navy I enjoyed cooking.
We had lots of friends and the vibrant Social
Life in the Defence Services entailed quite a bit of socializing, calling on
each other, and “bouncing”.
Since my wife is pure vegetarian, whenever we
called someone over for a meal, it was I who cooked the non-vegetarian dish.
Things changed drastically after retirement.
The kids have flown away from the nest to
pursue their own dreams, and now it is just the two of us, husband and wife,
and out pet dog Sherry.
We live among IT “Techie” Nerds, who have
long working hours, and in their off-time and weekends they like to keep to
themselves to enjoy “quality time”, so there is hardly any socializing, maybe another
factor is the generation gap as everyone out here is in their 20’s, 30’s and at
most in their 40’s.
I love food, and if you love food, the one
place you must keep away from is Wakad, the suburb of Pune where we have
settled down – there are just no decent value-for-money foodie joints around
here.
Since my wife cooks only vegetarian food, I
am quite starved of my once-in-a-while non-veg treat which I could enjoy
outside during my navy days.
“Why don’t you cook non-veg like before?” an acquaintance
asked me.
“I have become lazy,” I said, “and what’s the
point of putting in so much effort just for one person?”
“Try Mother’s Recipe Ready-To-Cook,” she said,
“it is simple – just add it to the chicken or meat or vegetables and cook –
nothing else is required – no chopping onions, no frying in oil, nothing – just
mix, add water and boil – and the dish is ready to eat.”
I forgot about it.
A few days later, during a visit to Reliance
Mart, in Aundh, I spotted Mother’s Recipe Chicken Curry Mix on the shelves and
picked up a packet.
The one thing you get plenty in Wakad is
fresh chicken.
Cooking the chicken curry was simple.
As per the instructions, I just mixed half a
kilo of chicken pieces, the entire contents of the packet, added 2 cups of
water, put it on a flame, brought to boil, and then covered and simmered for 20
minutes.
It is hassle-free cooking.
No cutting onions, no marinating, no frying in
oil, no grinding of masalas – nothing – just mix, add water and boil.
The chicken curry tasted delicious.
I decided to try out other flavours – chicken
moghlai, chicken chettinad, butter chicken, chicken biryani, and so many more – but surprisingly
Mother’s Recipe products were not available anywhere in Wakad.
I contacted customer service of Mother’s
Recipe and they were quick to respond – in two days time Mother’s Recipe
Ready-to-Cook was available at the convenience store in our residential
complex.
So now, whenever I am in a mood for a tasty, hassle-free,
easy to cook meal, all I do is open a packet of Mother’s Recipe Mix (they have
mixes for vegetarians too).
If you are a hungry bachelor, a career woman,
a “Dink” Couple, single parent, or a foodie like me who is too lazy to go
through the elaborate cooking process, Mother’s Recipe Ready-to-Cook will prove
a boon to you.
Though I like to cook the slow traditional way, the instructions say that you can cook these dishes in a microwave oven or a pressure cooker
