If you are one of those go-getter type eager-beavers, always in a hurry, here is one of my favourite Mulla Nasrudin Teaching Stories for you to read and ponder over ...
Mulla Nasrudin started ‘Art of Living’ Classes.
An eager-beaver man-in-a-hurry came to join and asked Nasrudin, “How long will I take to master the ‘Art of Living’ ? ”
“If you put in a reasonable amount of effort and practice for two hours every day then it will take you one year to master the ‘Art of Living’,” Nasrudin said to the prospective student.
“One year? That’s too long. I want fast results. I will put in maximum effort, burn the midnight oil and practice eight hours every day...” the enthusiastic man-in-a-hurry said.
“In that case it will take you ten years...!” Mulla Nasrudin said calmly and walked away.
MORAL OF THE STORY
Like a human pregnancy takes over 9 months, all things require appropriate time.
This includes the activity of learning as well.
You can't hurry it up beyond a certain pace.
For example, a Masters Course in Engineering or Technology (M.E. or M. Tech. in India and MS in the USA) normally takes 2 years (Four Semesters).
Someone told me that she completed her Masters in less than an year, in about 10 months, in some University abroad.
“How's that possible?” I asked, “aren't you supposed to complete the required amount of credits which take 3 Semesters (18 months) and also a dissertation which you do for one full semester (6 months)?”
“We squeezed everything in and studied round the clock and finished off everything in double-quick time,” said the eager beaver woman-in-a-hurry.
I narrated to her this Mulla Nasrudin Story on Learning the Art of Living.
Then, just to press my point home, as parting shot, I said to her tongue-in-cheek:
“If and when you get married, and if and when you decide to have a kid, make sure you do it in double-quick time like you did your Masters - you must deliver your baby in 4 months and not take 9 months ...!”
Think about it - and have a Relaxed Unhurried Weekend
