NAVY STYLE REPARTEE

This happened sometime in the late 1970’s.

My Boss (a Commander) complained about me to the Captain of the Ship:

“Conceited bugger, he behaves as if he is an Admiral although he is only a piddly Lieutenant.”

The Captain looked at me.

Then he looked at my boss, the Commander.

Then, in his thundering voice, the Captain spoke:

“I’d rather have a conceited Lieutenant who behaves as if he were an Admiral than have a spineless Commander who behaves worse than a bloody Petty Officer.”
