HOW TO AVOID BLAME GAME - a Philosophical Approach

In his classic manual on the art of living, the Stoic Philosopher Epictetus says:

To accuse others for your misfortunes is a sign of want of education

To accuse yourself shows that your education has begun

To accuse neither yourself nor others shows that your education is complete

So, when you see finger pointing and blame games going on, remember:

                           

1. An uneducated person blames others for his own troubles.

So if you blame others for your misfortunes, you are uneducated.

2. A semi-educated person blames himself for his troubles.

If you blame yourself, your education has just begun.

3. An educated person blames no one.

He accepts and tries to mitigate the problem with stoicism.

If you blame neither others nor yourself – if you do not blame anyone but accept and tackle the problem with stoicism, then your education is complete.

AVOID BLAME GAME

Whenever you are frustrated or upset or grieved:

Do not blame others

Do not blame yourself

Accept the event stoically with a philosophical approach to life and try to mitigate the problem and alleviate your distress.

This applies at the macro-level too - where we often see Blame Games going on, like you frequently see political leaders doing - just going on blaming each other which is a sign of want of education.

It is best to stop the perpetual BLAME GAME

Remember:

An uneducated person blames others for his own troubles

A semi-educated person blames himself for his troubles

A properly educated person blames no one - he does not blame himself nor does he blame others
