Tim...I am one such daughter who is also in the USA. Time and again i see people and including you Mr Karve demand an answer from both parties. With no offense to you or anyone, its a matter of choice. My parents made a choice for me, more so than i made for myself. They encouraged all three kids of theirs to learn and grow. The intention was for our future with no expectations in return. I learnt exactly the same thing and i will make sure my kids get the same freedom to do what they wish to or is good for them in their future.

I had a baby 18 months ago and my mom was here to help me then my in laws came right after. To the extent that they had a knowledge transfer week between themselves. Now i am expecting the next one and my parents are coming again. But the whole notion they are coming to take care of their daughter is not the only advantage here. Grandparents also get to travel, have fun with the kids and get loads of love from the reunion. My parents are travelers, if they don't come to the US or Australia they are travelling local within the country. I don't see why coming to spend quality time with their own kids is anything different, than us going there.

I grew up with my grandparents around and i want the same for my kids. Without being selfish i am moving back to India so they get to spend a whole lot more time with the grand kids. I wanted citizenship for my kids because i prefer for them to chose in the future to be where they want to be. I personally went through hell with the whole immigration process, i rather have them as many options open.

I might sound emotional but i am tried of people judging without being in the "DAUGHTERS/SON" shoes and just commenting . I love my parents to death, and i am what i am because my parents.Swateehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05132692323022847493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4710313771389348282.post-20681657000127403432013-06-07T11:07:29.516+05:302013-06-07T11:07:29.516+05:30Yeah...you are right....people always want the bes...Yeah...you are right....people always want the best of everything. And we, at micro level, should start changing it. For example, take the custom of marriage. Traditionally parents are supposed to take care of children's wedding expenses and then children are supposed to take care of aging parents. If aren't taking care of the latter, then why demand former?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17846323466187478742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4710313771389348282.post-5399569578036457062013-06-07T01:39:38.273+05:302013-06-07T01:39:38.273+05:30I'm one such person too, been brought up the w...I'm one such person too, been brought up the western way but eventually after reading ur posts, I never asked my parents to part for the sake of their children and in one such instance when I had fallen really ill and my mother suggested she stay with me until i was better, i was cross and said " u are not coming here in UK mum, dad needs u to be around and I will not do this to u anyway. topic closed, ur not coming "
Dad came to see me anyway out of worry and I sent him back in 3 days. I suppose I will always follow this, I wont separate my parents because I need them. yes, I'm really western in that matter because I've been loved unconditionally by my parents as one unit and I'll always appreciate it that way from them. Time we grow up our own babies on our own. Note I am not saying "well writ...Well written. Note I am not saying "well written story" :) We see so many examples of these. In fact, after some years, some of these families actually come back to India feeling safe that their child is a US citizen. So even if something bad happens here, he can go back to US and be safe and sound. Another twist of the story is in most cases grand parents are very supportive of the "best of both worlds" theory. However, only after few years they realize that their grandchildren talk to them in a accent which they don't understand and neither they are on the same plane where talking to them makes any sense. After all, grand parents still are in the third world. I am not saying this is all wrong, in fact, this is all logical to a great extent. Just that this is not organic growth.
